Introduction to Equagility With Competition
Berkshire Horse Agility
Mon 29 May 2017
Additional Event InformationIntroduction to Equagility (ridden horse agility) and "have a go" competition with International Horse Agility Club accredited trainer and judge.
1pm-4pm, on grass, arrive early, bring a picnic and start with lunch. Suitable for equines of 4 years and over in ridden work and suitable for all levels, including newcomers. Play on obstacles in a relaxed, sociable setting, affiliated trainer on hand for advice and coaching, finish with an optional competition.
Equagility. Competitions involve completing 5 obstacles in hand (usual agility rules apply) and then the same 5 obstacles ridden. For the ridden element, saddles are allowed, equally it's your choice to ride with a bareback pad or bareback (but be safe at all times). The ethos of Equagility is to ride through seat, weight, voice - not from the horse's mouth. Bridles are allowed - for safety - however in a competition any direct pull on the rein is penalised and all training is geared towards encouraging riding from the seat (and voice). As such, it is encouraged to move towards riding bitless and bitless bridles, dually headcollars, natural (rope) hackamores etc are all allowed and encouraged (but always safety first - do make sure that you have steering and brakes!). There is absolutely no problem in coming to this Introduction session in a regular saddle and bridle and taking things from there :-)
