Thinking about giving a feral pony a home? This practical and informative workshop is designed to help you understand exactly what to expect before taking this rewarding step. Hosted by the British Horse Society in partnership with the Mare and Foal Sanctuary, this event will provide expert guidance on the realities of bringing a feral pony from the moor into a domestic environment. Understanding the Journey Feral ponies have unique characteristics, behaviours and needs. During this workshop, you'll learn how these remarkable animals adapt to life in a home setting and what you can do to support them through that transition. Topics include: Handling and behaviour Field and shelter setup Companionship requirements Feeding and nutrition Parasite control Hoof care Veterinary planning and preventative healthcare Real-Life Success Stories Hear inspiring examples of feral ponies that have gone on to become confident riding ponies and beloved companions. Alongside these success stories, we'll also discuss the challenges, commitments and responsibilities involved, helping you make an informed decision. Building Confidence Before You Commit The aim of this workshop is not simply to encourage homing, but to ensure every potential owner has the knowledge, confidence and support needed to give a feral pony the very best start in its new life. Whether you're considering purchasing a pony from this autumn's sales or you're simply interested in learning more, you'll leave with practical, evidence-based advice from experienced equine professionals. Part of the Feral Pony Education Series This event forms part of the British Horse Society's collaborative Feral Pony Education Series, bringing together charities and equine experts to improve equine welfare through education, awareness and responsible ownership. What to Bring Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear, as parts of the event will take place outdoors on uneven ground. Supporting Our Charitable Work Tickets are free.
